This print was inspired by the Anti-Fracking movement in 2012 that was affecting Boulder County when new Fracking regulations were permitting drill sites closer to homes and schools. In this hand carved, hand printed woodblock print, Grace combines the mythical sea monster of Norse folklore and giant squid: the Kracken, that swallowed the sailors’ ships whole replacing its tentacles with the industrial equipment used in Hydraulic Fracturing (fracking).
Grace carved the image into wood backwards, so that when ink, paper, and pressure was applied, the image would read left to right. Pretty clever!
