Grace Noel Art’s Mom-Baby Series makes its debut in May 2021! Grace created this series while on maternity leave with her first child: Lazuli, or Laz for short. Laz was born in Dec 2020, and Grace found out she was pregnant at the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Pregnancy is a challenge of its own but all of the stress of the COVID-19 Pandemic and its effect on artists-gig workers and small business owners made for a wild time to be expecting! Needless to say Grace’s first pregnancy was a unique experience during a unique time requiring more strength, resilience, and courage than non-pandemic times. The Mom-Baby series is a celebration of a healthy pregnancy and successful birth regardless of adversity and inspired by Grace’s incredible joy and love for becoming a mother. The images of the Mom-Baby Series were inspired by the many nature documentaries Grace and Laz watched while establishing a breastfeeding routine and recovering from birth. Grace found connection with the mothers of all species of the animal kingdom in what she was experiencing during her first few months of motherhood. Further, Grace recognized the extreme power, strength, and resilience mothers of all species have to ensure the wellbeing of their families.

Grace is deeply inspired and empowered by pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. The Mom-Baby Series takes Grace’s artwork to the next level, using resin and glitter to make her artwork bolder, refined, and an extra glittery shine! This is the first series where Grace has experimented with using resin to embellish her paintings -- a process she is now absolutely obsessed with! Resin paintings do have a layer of care that accompanies them, meaning they should not be displayed in direct sunlight because they will yellow over time. Grace’s process ensures that the yellowing will be minimal but is still something to be cautious of!

The Mom-Baby Series is accompanied by a dream Grace has of creating a foundation to assist self employed/gig-worker creatives with financial support for maternity leave. Grace, herself is a self-employed, gig-worker, and small business owner who knows first hand the experience of fundraising and financially preparing for a newborn while operating/maintaining a small business (during a pandemic!). She absolutely could not have done it without the support of her community! In addition, Grace is passionate about supporting mothers along their journey because pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are FAR FROM EASY and very few resources exist.
