The Chinese Zodiac 5 Elements Series is based on the elements of metal, water, wood, fire, and earth which exist both in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Astrology. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the 5 elements are used to diagnose the body and identify treatments. For Chinese Astrology, the 5 elements provide characteristics to the 12 zodiac signs:
Metal
metal is always worth money! The metal element attracts monetary wealth, is rigid but also flexible, and transformative!
Water
Psychic, feeling, and intuitive. The water element is known for compassion, going with the flow, and sensing things before they happen.
Wood
Nothing says community like a forest! The wood element is rigid but flexible like metal. Wood builds, creates, and sustains massive community projects and is team oriented.
Fire
Leadership and Vision! Every being starts with the spark of inspiration and vision where the fire element has the courage to take risks, ignite passion, and take action.
Earth
Consistent and enduring! The Earth will always be there and the sense of longevity makes the earth element stable, routine, hardworking, and consistent over time.

There’s a clever way to remember this too! Years ending in 0 & 1 are metal years because metal supports the water in a watering can for years 2 & 3. The watering can nourishes the plants of years 4 & 5. Two sticks rub together to create the fire of years 6 & 7. Fire will burn down to create earth, years 8 & 9.
